Manuel Bennett (American, b. 1921) has had a long, varied artistic career as a painter, sculptor, designer, and teacher. After studying at a New York arts high school and serving as a cartographer in the US Army, Bennett moved to Mexico in 1951 to continue his artistic training at La Esmeralda, an arts school based in Mexico City. There he studied under such world-renowned artists as Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Dr. Atl, and Francisco Zúñiga. Over the years, Bennett has made a point to contribute to humanitarian causes through his art, donating works to cities and international organizations.

 

The four designs here are based on Bennett’s original pen-and-ink illustrations of life in the garden.
