The pride of stipula is the I Castoni collection - an elegant series adorned with precious and semi-precious gems. Each Stipula pens cabochon, mounted upon the clip, is an emblematic testament to the quality and craftsmanship of each pen. Born of ancient Rome, the name "Stipula" represents this Florentine penmakers long-term commitment to quality and precision. To signify the acceptance of an oath or commitment, the Romans traditionally split a single "stipula" or straw. To the talented craftsmen of Stipula, the name is a daily reminder of their dedication to their constant search for the most inspired aesthetic and technologically sound solutions to the art (and science) of fine writing instruments. Each step in Stipula's singular, painstaking fabrication process is steeped in tradition and respect for fine materials, often involving long periods of seasoning for particular raw materials. Semi-finished products such as pen barrels are either hand-turned to ensure a particular finish, or machine-turned to ensure the highest precision and yield the most exacting accuracies. Grinding and polishing are never rushed because, after all, the material's natural shine and clarity of hue must be coaxed to the surface. Finally, the engraving that distinguishes each Stipula writing instrument with its unique character, is expertly performed by master goldsmiths. Made from materials with shifting color and "mother of pearl" luminescent qualities, each instrument is also a wonder of efficient design and individually numbered. Balanced writing is virtually guaranteed by a special metal sleeve inside each barrel which houses the in-fill system - either a converter plunger or cartridge with room for a spare.
