pelikan

The company that would become Pelikan officially came into being on April 28, 1838 in Hannover, Germany. Pelikan quickly earned its reputation throughout Europe as a manufacturer of quality paints, oils and inks. In fact, many generations of school children grew up with Pelikan ink stains on their fingers from dipping their pens in the firm’s trademark bottles, and missing its handy pen rest which is grooved into the glass.

The famed black and green striped Pelikan fountain pen did not actually appear until 1929 — almost a century after the company’s birth. The first model, the “100” now considered a rare collector’s item, set the standard for the functional, yet distinctive lines that followed, many of which were initially introduced as “school pens.”

Pelikan pens are one of the few "Airplane Safe" writing instruments manufactured, which makes them an excellant choice for the well traveled business person.
